Paris in the summer - what is better than deciding if you are Juilletistes or Aoûtiens? Well - deciding to head out for a day at Paris Plages, of course! Let's take a P'Niche peek to learn more about this lively urban oasis (which has its seasonal opening date on July 05, 2025)...

Paris Plages was introduced, and trademarked, in 2002. Initiated by that time's Mayor, Bertrand Delanoë, the concept was innovative yet simple: to bring beach life to Paris during the hot summer months for those unable to depart to coastal getaways or even to escape the city at all during the hot (and let's be honest here - rarely air conditioned) summer. Next up, how to transform the banks of the river Seine into a peaceful "seaside" retreat?

I mean, as the name states, obviously, the main (and charming) attraction of Paris Plages is undoubtedly its sandy beaches - nearly 3 kilometers in total.
As you stroll along the historic Parisian riverbanks, you’ll discover several distinct sections - each filled with soft golden sand, deck chairs, and palm trees, creating inviting spaces for sunbathing, reading, having a pique-nique, and relaxation.
In 2024, it is estimated that over 2.5 million visitors graced her shores, both local and traveler alike.
During peak hours (let's say 11am - 3pm), you should not be surprised to see over 5,000 sunbathers scoping out space - enjoying their time in this simultaneously lively, yet relaxing open air refuge.
This unique urban beach offers a truly sensory experience - combining the noise and hustle of a busy metropolis paired with the soothing current of the Seine - who wouldn't want to grab a chair and "park?!"

But wait - there's more! An additional high point of Paris Plages is the range of sports and activities offered.
You can find beach volleyball courts, pétanque areas, yoga classes. etc. This does not even include the biking, walking, jogging, and dancing you are sure to encounter here.
Heaven bless you sporty types, but P'Niche will stick to her "seaside" apéro!

And, it's a great day out for the kiddos as well! Families will definitely find Paris Plages particularly appealing, with designated children’s areas - filled with engaging activities and safe play zones.
From inflatable structures to arts and crafts stations, there’s plenty to keep kids entertained while parents unwind and relax.
Don't forget to pack your sunscreen - or grab some from Monoprix - and grab a hat and some cookies while you are there!

In the mood for some summertime culture? You guessed, it Paris Plages can provide -with a variety of engaging artistic events throughout the summer.
At Paris Plages, you'll be able to enjoy open-air concerts, film screenings, and art exhibits, set against the dreamy backdrop of the Seine. In 2024, over 50 unique happenings were organized and well attended - what a way to bring the city of Paris together in celebration - can you imagine checking out art and watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle from this sandy spot? Oui, Please!

Come on - no beach day is complete without refreshing food and/or drinks and along the shoreline of Paris Plages, you can enjoy various "beach bars" and cafés, with no shortage of variety.
In fact, food and drink sales in 2024 reached well over two million euros - proving that these food stalls not only showcase the rich culinary landscape of France, but boost that summertime economy too - hashtag winning!

Ready to dive in? Great! (all jokes aside, please do not dive, wade, or try to swim in the Seine!)

P'Nichers, Paris Plages is more than just a beach in the city; it represents a unique intersection of urban life and sweet relaxation - an experience not to be missed if you are in town during the busy summer months.
